February feels optimistic here on the Braes. Snowdrops are out, the days have started to lengthen, birds are singing and I’m keen to get back to painting after a restful January spent updating my Artwork Archive inventory – which may sound dull but I’m really pleased with the result – more on this in my next post.
First things first – I’ve had two of my paintings selected to appear in the Open 2025 exhibition held by the Old Lock Up Gallery, in Derbyshire. I’m delighted!
These two are small but firm favourites of mine – they capture some of the life, colour and movement that surrounds us here.

‘Moon Sun Earth Water’ (22 x22 x3cm float framed)
‘Unfurl’ captures that moment when the sun breaks through and you can almost hear the buds popping.

‘Unfurl’ – (22 x22 x3cm float framed)
The exhibition opens up on Saturday 9th Feb and is on until 22nd March 2025. Both paintings are available to buy from the Old Lock Up Gallery at £145 each. Please do check out this welcoming gallery run by Rachael Pinks who is on Instagram as @theoldlockupgallery and also on BlueSky. I’m also now on BlueSky as @RonnieCruwysArt having closed down my X/Twitter account – part of my Spring Clean!
Thanks for reading,
Ronnie 🙂
